NEUF CARBON-NEUTRAL: COMMITMENT, A MISSION, A FUTURE

25.01.09

To contribute to the efforts of transforming Canadian businesses toward a carbon-neutral future, NEUF has committed to The Net-Zero Challenge. Aligned with the government’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets, the firm is dedicated to achieving carbon neutrality in its operations by 2030.

OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

Our carbon footprint is calculated internally according to the ISO 14064 protocol and is published annually in the Sustainable Strategies Report.

Emissions are divided into three scopes:

  1. Direct emissions (fossil fuels). No direct emissions are produced since all three offices of the firm are powered 100% by hydroelectricity.
  2. Indirect emissions (consumed energy). Electricity consumed by the offices includes mechanical systems, hot water, lighting, and plug loads.
  3. Indirect emissions (other than consumed energy). The goods and services we consume account for 99% of our total emissions.

OUR STRATEGIES

We aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 through concrete and impactful actions. The implementation of these strategies is guided as follows:

Promotion of clean technologies and reduction at the source

  • Supply – Favor purchasing goods and services that are local, sustainable, zero-waste, reusable, and have a low carbon footprint.
  • Waste Management – Optimize waste management by increasing recycling, composting, reuse, and source reduction.
  • Transportation – Encourage and provide incentives for car-sharing, carpooling, public transit, and active transportation.
  • Business Travel – Double-offset emissions from business air travel by investing in certified carbon credits.

Emission Compensation

  • Carbon Credits – The purchase of carbon credits will be used to offset what cannot be reduced by 2030.
These credits help fund projects and initiatives that support the protection of natural environments, reforestation, and innovative ventures such as solar and wind energy production and optimized waste management.

TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Our commitment to sustainable strategies guides every action taken by the firm. This ensures responsible and positive growth that positively impacts the environment, communities, and stakeholders. Achieving carbon reduction targets requires implementing innovative initiatives in the daily operations of our three offices and our ongoing projects. The Sustainable Strategies Report serves as an opportunity to affirm our corporate responsibility and present the actions taken to meet greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction objectives. Aware of global environmental challenges, we will continue to adapt and optimize our practices to contribute to the transition towards a sustainable future.
